Paying Tribute: FOR Awards Results

Date: 06.06.2013 | Author: Shahnaz Mahmud

The second annual Family Office Review awards gala paid tribute in various ways to the industry in downtown Chicago’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel on June 5.

A happy gathering of familiar and new faces at the event gave way to a pleasant and relaxed evening, as attendees recognized leaders for their contributions to the community.

FOR’s founder and editor in chief Steffi Claiden had a few choice words for attendees before the program began. Jim Kane, president of HUB International Personal Insurance, touchingly spoke about industry colleague Michael Brink, who recently passed away. Susan Norton, CEO of Wildscreen USA, presented on the charity’s work [FOR is supporting the cause this year], informing the audience of its activities - promoting an appreciation of biodiversity and nature - its endangered species - through the power of wildlife imagery. Later, Dirk Junge, chairman of Pitcairn, honored knowing when to make a change within the family office structure to ensure its future. Junge also provided insight on areas he feels need assessing for all family offices in order to be successful going forward. He pointed to globalization, transparency, collaboration, regulation and technology and social media as critical to this. James Rosebush, founder of management consulting firm GrowthStrategy, gave a highly-charged keynote speech, “Where Have All the Leaders Gone”, paying tribute to President Ronald Reagan (Rosebush served as a senior aide to him), breaking down his effective leadership and how attendees can learn from him. Some main takeaways? Know yourself - and understand what it is you believe in, he said.

Junge and Joe Reilly delivered the night’s winners of the FOR Awards, North America 2013.
